How do I know if Anastomosis is right for me?

The North Carolina Center for Reproductive Medicine will conduct a thorough examination of each patient’s medical history, as provided by her Ob-Gyn and/or tubal ligation surgeon. There are several different methods of tubal ligation and each requires a different anastomosis technique in order to reverse the original surgery. Anastomosis can be successful for almost every woman who chooses to have the reversal surgery, regardless of the kind of tubal ligation that had been previously performed, unless the tubes were removed.

How will having the surgery affect my relationship with my Ob-Gyn?

Your primary care provider will continue to be your Ob-Gyn or Women’s Health specialist. Most of our anastomosis patients are referred to us by their regular physicians and they will want to conduct a post-operative examination. If you are self-referred, we would strongly encourage you to develop a relationship with an Ob-Gyn or other physician specializing in women’s health issues, since you may become pregnant at any time following the surgery.

Once I have the surgery, can I get pregnant again?

Each patient is different, but generally speaking women who have had anastomosis can become pregnant again, and most do within the first year following reversal surgery. The likelihood of a successful pregnancy depends on several factors: the method of the original tubal ligation; the length and health of the fallopian tubes; and the age and general health of the woman.

We have state-of-the-art equipment and a medical staff that specializes in procedures having to do with human reproduction, especially tubal ligation reversal. Our clinical staff-to-patient ratio is much smaller than at a hospital, and we concentrate all our attention on the safety and wellbeing of our patients. In fact, having the surgery in an outpatient environment may reduce the risk of hospital-borne bacterial infections that may sometimes be contracted from sick patients.

Would I not expect better results from In-Vitro Fertilization?
